Wrenze Steel is a structural consultant in Dubai for contractors, steel fabricators, developers, architects and engineering consultants. We design structures, review designs prepared by others, prepare Dubai Municipality submissions and support projects through construction. Steel structures are our core, and we also design reinforced concrete and foundations. Our office is in Dubai Silicon Oasis, and we work across the UAE and the GCC.

Structural engineering consultancy services

As a structural design engineering consultancy, we take on the engineering part of a project that a contractor or consultant does not want to carry in-house. Our services cover:

  • Structural steel design of buildings, roofs, bridges, pavilions and special structures
  • RCC structural design and foundation design
  • Third-party design review and design verification
  • Dubai Municipality (DM) approvals for the structural design
  • Value engineering of steel designs to reduce tonnage and fabrication cost
  • Structural assessment and strengthening of existing buildings
  • Corrosion protection recommendations for steel structures
  • Preventive and reactive maintenance reports and manuals for steel structures
  • Design of cold-formed steel supports for facades and cladding
  • Project management and quality control support for steel packages

Third-party design review

A third-party design review is an independent check of a structure designed by another engineer. Developers use it to confirm that a design is safe before construction. Contractors use it when they doubt the tonnage in the tender design. Consultants use it when a specialist steel structure falls outside their usual work.

Our review covers the design basis, the loads and load combinations, the analysis model, the member and connection design, and the drawings. We issue a review report that separates items that do not comply with the code or the specification from items that could be made lighter or simpler. When the design is revised, we check the revision and close each comment.

Dubai Municipality approval

Most structures in Dubai need structural approval before construction starts. We prepare the structural calculation report and drawings in the format the authority expects, follow the submission and answer the comments until the structural design is accepted. For steel structures, we make sure the design submitted for approval is the one the fabricator will build, so there is no second redesign after approval.

Building consultancy in Dubai and the UAE

As a structural engineering company, we also act as a building consultancy for the structural side of commercial, industrial and infrastructure projects in Dubai and across the UAE. That covers structural design and analysis, design review, approvals, and engineering support during construction, such as corrosion protection advice, maintenance reports and manuals, quality control and facade and cladding support design.

Who we work with

  • Contractors: design for design-and-build packages, alternative designs that cut tonnage, and answers to consultant comments
  • Steel fabricators: design, connection design and shop drawings for steel packages
  • Engineering consultants and architects: sub-consultancy for the steel scope, or for the full structure of smaller buildings, when structural engineering consultants in Dubai prefer a steel specialist on the team
  • Developers and owners: design reviews, assessments of existing buildings, and maintenance reports

Codes and software

We work to AISC, British Standards and Eurocode for steel, as the project specification requires, and follow local municipality regulations. Analysis is carried out in structural analysis software with full 3D models. Connections are designed in IDEA StatiCa, RAM Connection and Limcon, and models for detailing are built in Tekla Structures and Advance Steel.

How a consultancy assignment runs

  1. You send the drawings, the specification and a description of what you need.
  2. We confirm the scope, the deliverables and the fee.
  3. We agree the design basis or review criteria with you and, where relevant, the lead consultant.
  4. We carry out the design, review or assessment.
  5. We issue the report, calculations or drawings and meet your team to go through them.
  6. We answer comments from the consultant or the authority until the work is approved.

Structural consultant in Dubai for UAE and GCC projects

Our structural engineers work on projects in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the northern emirates, and deliver remotely in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain. Clients outside the UAE send drawings and specifications, and we return calculations, models and drawings for review by their local engineer.

Consultancy projects

We were the third-party steel structure consultant on the Frank Muller Aeternitas Tower in Dubai Marina for London Gate Real Estate Development, and provided full consultancy to Dubai Municipality for the Mushrif Park cable-stayed bridge. We modelled and designed the steel for the G+43 Crown Icon Bay Tower at Dubai Creek Harbour for Emirates Steel. Other consultancy work includes the structural design verification of a monument in Sharjah for Diales, and full engineering of an acoustic hall in Dubai Festival City and the SLB main office modification in JAFZA for Impart Design Group.

Structural engineering consultancy: questions

What does a structural consultant do?

A structural consultant designs the structure of a building or works out whether an existing design is safe and economical. That covers loads, analysis, member and connection design, foundations, drawings, authority approvals and answering technical questions during construction.

Do you carry out third-party design reviews?

Yes. We review steel structure designs prepared by others for developers, contractors and consultants. We check the design basis, loads, model, member and connection design and drawings, and issue a report listing what complies and what needs to change.

Can you handle Dubai Municipality approval for the structure?

Yes. We prepare the structural calculations and drawings for Dubai Municipality (DM) submission, follow the submission through and answer the authority's comments on the structural design.

Do you work as a sub-consultant to architects and engineering consultants?

Yes. Architects and engineering offices appoint us for the steel scope of their projects, or for the full structure on smaller buildings. We work to their drawing standards and coordinate directly with their team.

Do you only design steel structures?

Steel is our core, but we also design reinforced concrete structures and foundations. On mixed projects we design the steel and the concrete together, so the interfaces, anchor bolts and support reactions match.
