Angola Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai

Render of the Angola Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, a curved pavilion with a ring of columns and a roof crown of slats

Project overview

The Angola Pavilion was Angola’s national pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai. Wrenze Steel carried out the steel modelling and quantity surveying, with NSD Architectural Consultants as the consultant.

The render shows a curved pavilion ringed by columns, with a crown of slats around its roof edge.

Our scope

Our scope was modelling and quantity surveying:

  • Modelling: building the 3D steel model of the pavilion, member by member, following its curved plan and the slatted crown.
  • Quantity surveying: measuring the steel from the model to give reliable tonnage and quantities for pricing and procurement.

The structure

Curved buildings are where a 3D model earns its keep. In a circular or oval plan, beams, rings and columns meet at changing angles, and no two bays are quite the same. A model captures that geometry exactly, so the quantities include every curved member, connection plate and bracing piece rather than an estimate.

The model also shows clashes and gaps early, before fabrication, and gives the contractor a clear picture of what is being built. Our model of the Angola Pavilion shows the curved rings of steel, the columns and the bracing that hold its form.

This was part of our wider Expo 2020 work. See our steel quantity take-off service or request a quote.
